Year 2017 has been a golden for Indian badminton. India is at number-1. Indian players won 7 singles titles this year. China, who dominated badminton, got only two titles. This is the best performance ever in the history of India’s Super Series. The Super Series was started in 2007. India won the title for the first two years. By the way, India had won silver medal in women singles (PV Sindhu) of World Championship this year.

PV Sindhu started the sequence in the Indian Open Super Series in March. Here he defeated Carolina Marin of Spain defeating him at the Rio Olympics.

After this, Shrikant gave his career best performance. He made his name after the titles of Indonesia Open, Australia Open, Denmark Open and France Open.

– Kidambi Srikanth became the world’s number two player in the Badminton ranking in November. After 37 years it happened that an Indian male shuttle reached the top 2. Earlier, in 1980, Prakash Padukone was World No. 1.

– Srikanth also became the third Indian male player to appear in top-5 in 2015. Then he got the fourth ranking. Pudukon and Pullela Gopichand before World No. 5 were formed in 2001. Shrikant himself is a disciple of Gopichand.
